Susni Shak Diye Masoor Dal/ Red Lentil with Susni Leaves
Susni Shak Diye Masoor Dal/ Red lentil with Susni Leaves is a very healthy recipe used to treat respiratory diseases, insomnia, high blood pressure, etc.
What are susni leaves; their common names are four-leaf clover; European water clover (US); sushi (India); aalaik keerai in Tamil It is known as Sushani shak or Sunsuni /Susni Shak to many in the village. The leaves of this vegetable are very delicate and thin, and divided into four segments. This creepy plant is a fern that usually grows in damp areas near the pond or on agricultural land, and abundantly grows in the rainy season.
How to consume; you can make it stir fry with garlic and onion and also may cook it with dal
The types of equipment used for this recipe are
Colander to wash the susni shak
Frying pan with lid
Spatula
The ingredients required for this recipe are
Susni/susuni shak: The day after plucking the leaves, it would turn yellow, so buy the same day, you are cooking
Cooking oil: Here I used mustard oil, but you can use any cooking oil
Other ingredients are onion, garlic, turmeric powder, panchphoron, red chili, and salt
Preparation
Wash red lentils/Masoor dal and put it in a pan, and allow it to boil (it will take 8-10 minutes) on medium flame
Heat oil in a pan, and add panchphoron, red chili, and garlic for tempering
As they sizzle and splutter add the chopped onion, and sauté them until they become translucent
Now add the turmeric powder
Add the susni shak, cover the lid, and allow them to cook for two minutes on low flame
Open the lid and stir them for a minute
Add the Masoor dal, and mix them well with the shak
Cook them for 2 minutes on a high flame
Transfer them to a serving plate and serve hot with hot piping rice
