How to make delicious chana dal masala/split Bengal gram
Cholar dal or chana dal is a Bengali delicacy, in the winter morning, breakfast with cholar dal diye luchi is amazing. We normally prepare cholar dal with coconut, but today I will make it some other way. Soaked Bengal gram/chana dal cooked with Fried Onions or barista paste with other spices; this is How to make delicious chana dal masala/split Bengal gram.

Ingredients
- 2 Chopped Onion Fry (Barista)*
- Tomatoes Chopped-2
- Garlic Cloves-6-8 Chopped
- Ginger Paste-1 Teaspoon
- Turmeric Powder-1 Teaspoon
- Roasted Cumin Powder-1Teaspoon
- 1 Teaspoon of Coriander Powder
- of Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder -1Teaspoon
- 1/2 Teaspoon of Garam Masala Powder
- Kasoori Methi (Dry Fenugreek Leaves)- 1 Tablespoon
- 2 Tablespoons dry mango powder(amchur powder)
- salt to taste
How to make delicious chana dal masala/split Bengal gram
- Wash & soak cholar dal or chana dal for 2-3 hours.
- Then take a pressure cooker, heat oil, add bay leaf & chopped garlic, then add red chili powder and paste of barista (fried onion) stir fry.
- You can add chopped tomatoes & ginger paste and cook for 2 minutes.
- Now we can add the chana dal and other spices e.g. turmeric, amchur, coriander and cumin powder and cook for another 2 minutes. Add water,salt and close the lid and go for 2 whistles.
- Open the lid after releasing the pressure and add kasuri methi,garam masala ,mix it well ,serve with rice or bread.
* Barista =slice the onions and separate the slices.In a pan or kadai heat oil and fry the onion slices till becomes dark brown in color and keep aside.Take small portion at a time and make it crispy,Don’t put all at a time other wise it will not be fried properly.
